Unity in Diversity came from the Latin phrase i.e. unitas in varetite. Its motto is to promote multiculturalism and federalism. This was initiated for the upliftment of political and society.
This phrase is typically oxymoron where it tells us about the unitas which means unity or oneness and varietas which means variety or variousness.
Unity in India
Probably India is the only country across the globe where people from different caste, religion and creeds, having different cultures, speaking different languages, different ways of living, different style of clothing, different rules and regulations, different gods to worship keeping these thinking apart they live altogether as beloved children of one mother which is our Mother India.
All are the citizens of India who are governed by a single authority who have one president, a prime minister, one Supreme Court and an army chief. These are the reasons why India is also known as unity in diversity.
Geography of India
Geographically India is full of variety and its some states are so large that they are bigger than many European countries. India as a whole is well contained by nature. In north we have Himalayan ranges. On south side we have Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. In this case India has unity from natural geographical too.
India consists of different religion which is presently enjoying the livelihood across the globe. Apart from Hinduism India also contain the followers of Jainism, Buddhism, Islam, pareses, Christianity and Sikhism.
Apart from all religion, Hinduism is of greater majority. There are different sections, factions and sub-section in our society but all of us believe in the cycle of Dharma and Karma.
The theory of purification of soul, rebirth, heaven and hell, salvation holds equally and justified for everyone. We untidily celebrate Holi, Christmas, Eid, Diwali, Mahavir Jayanti, Budh Jayanti which also unites us.
Philosophies which are meant for equality among each other have developed under the care of Mother India. It is not a part of any other religion. This helped all of us to maintain togetherness. There are just basic differences among all religion which have different gods as well as different modes of worshiping.
These differences will sustain whenever interaction of different people happens. But the ultimate goal is of achieving the salvation and hence fear of Hell keeps us bounded altogether.
Mixture of various ethnic groups is the most important characteristic of our society. These societies enjoy their own forms of grouping. As a result there is no dispute or any interference among different groups.
Current scenario
There may be certain negative points in our constitution which is related to separate amenities for the people of different castes; which are backward classes, scheduled castes and tribes.
In order to rethink about our unity, industrialization helped us by making policies which have generated a new look which enjoys secularism among our culture.
People of different castes and societies and followers of religions have come altogether in factories, form and educational institution. This results in blending of different cultures and bringing the unity.
Emotional unity is playing its own part. The name; Bharat Mata helps us to come closer and close altogether. Irrespective of different languages, language of Vedas, Sanskrit, bring us altogether because Sanskrit is known as the mother of all native languages.
The major reasons for motivation of unity in diversity can be summarized as follows:
- We Indians of all religions believe in spirituality and on wealth of material.
- Religion has been given top most priority due to which we believe blindly in Karma and Sanskar.
- Unique feature of religion is religion tolerance which helps in coexistence of different religion
- Majority of our population comprise of Hindus which has the capacity to absorb all different cultures. It has absorbed all immigrant cultures and influenced them at very large scale.
- We have a broad outlook in which we follow and preach religion and spiritualism.
- We believe in freedom of expression and freedom of thought because this develops the cultures and makes them dynamic.
Although the desired extent has not been achieved for the unity and different attempts make by foreign agencies to disprove and disrupt have proved futile.
We all go to temples, masjid, gurudwaras for the sake of our well being irrespective of different religion and caste. This helps us to stand against all foreign powers to disturb our territory. This is the evidence of our unity in diversity.
