Strike While the Iron is Hot | Meaning & Expansion of Proverb | Essay

December 15, 2017 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

This proverb is one of the best proverbs and holds a lot of relevance till date. It essentially means that a person should learn to strike at the opportunity as and when it comes. This proverb has essentially originated from the work of an iron smith.

An iron smith moulds the iron as and when he wants to. But for that he has to break the iron at the right time i.e. when iron is hot. Because after it cools down, nothing can be done to mould it again.

Success does not knock the same door twice. But one should always keep his doors open for any kind of opportunities that knock your door. A person who is successful does not attain his success just by a matter of chance. But successful people put in a lot of hard work and labor to attain the pedestal they have risen to.

Sure, luck does matter in your right cards playing out at the right time but it is your decisions that make you successful or unsuccessful. Obviously, failure is an evident step in the process of success. But not trying to attain what you want to be will bring you no opportunities.

Do only what the situation requires you to and the right door will open up eventually for you? Success takes time. It is not a one day process.

And eventually the idea of success changes. It is a subjective matter and different for everyone. Success is not a destination but a journey where the difficulties convert into opportunities at the right time. But for that you need to have patience and meanwhile, work on improving your skills so that you have an added advantage to yourself.

Things work out only when they are handled correctly and at the right time. You may be doing a noble work but that work becomes noble only when you do it at the right times.

My mother always asks me to speak less and speak meaningful. Because this maintains my respect in the eyes of the other person. Also, this does not give out any more information to anyone than requires. For instance, take the example of sportsmen.

While playing a game, they knew exactly what to do and when to take what step. This is very crucial for the game to be won.

At that point of time, it won’t matter which team has better players but what matters is on the spot critical thinking. Fast decision making is required in the ground to battle the consequences. If the captain comes up with the right strategy in the niche of times, he can actually assert the defeat of the team into its win.

Also we should wage a war only when we are ready for it. We should be prepared to handle the consequences of our decisions. Or else they might turn discretions. Preparedness for all situations is the key to success. You cannot grab the opportunity if you are not ready for it.

But once you are prepared enough, you can venture into dangerous territory and have your marks etched on each mind. You should always be on a lookout for opportunities that might come your way. That does not only include career related decisions but also building a beautiful and reliable personnel life.

Relationships built out of purity will stay with you forever but money and fame will not. So you should make the most of the chance you get. This world is a small place. Life is mortal and uncertain. You never know what happens here. So, might as well make the most out of it. Live the life to the fullest.

Living here means doing whatever you like from the core of your heart. Because the opportunity to live your life will not be handed to you again. So you should strike at your life with all the power in your veins and conquer it like a boss.

Take the example of sailors. The sailors near the sea can take the advantage of hide as and when it comes and set their sails form the journey. But the one who are not near the sea would never be able to grab this opportunity. As I said, opportunities come to those who grab it faster than a heartbeat.

And the tapping of those opportunities determines our success. Going deep into the annals of history, we all might remember the invasion of Nadir shah who plundered the bounty of our country. He took advantage of the situation and stole the largest and the most beautiful diamond in the world, Kohinoor.

He was successful in stealing it only because he invaded us at the right time. Similar is the story of Britishers. They came in India only to trade during Jahangir’s rule. But what started as a trade expedition resulted in our captivation by their hands.

At that time when the Britishers were beginning to strengthen their grip in India; there was no ruler as powerful who could bring the whole of India under one hood. They took advantage of this situation and ruled our country for an entire period of almost 200 years.

If you scan the current situation of the country, you will come to understand that this is the way Mr. Modi works. His surgical strikes on black money took everyone by surprise. But it was actually the time at which he conducted this strike- the time when he was least suspected to do something so drastic of this magnitude.

This is what took all the people by surprise and they finally opened up to the government about their black money. When talking about Modi a very recent incident comes to my mind.

They were many traders who were waiting for their goods to get cleared from the customs of our country. Goods like diyas, firecrackers, and fairy lights mainly from china were waiting to be offloaded. But Modi heavily despises Chinese goods and has asked to give a boost to the ‘Make in India’ campaign, he didn’t let the offloading of these goods begin before Diwali. This severely impacted many traders but boosted the manufacture of our country.
