Essay on Silence is Golden : Meaning, Expansion of Proverb

March 8, 2018 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

An age old proverb goes; which determines the essence of silence in our lives. Silence is golden and the words you speak or communicate are actually silver.

The notion of ‘silence’ is underestimated and often it’s importance is not understood in one’s life.

Silence is a state of an art weapon and can be used diplomatically and intellectually in situations where words fail to leave their impact and are not enough to communicate the ideas of the sender to the receiver.

Use of silence can indicate fear, nervousness, intimidation or even work. It is a powerful tool to communicate one’s inner feelings and emotions.

At times, when a person is too shocked to say something out of happiness or shock; he uses silence as the golden weapon to communicate his/her feelings.

Since ages, old men have ascertained the importance of silence in our lives. They say better not to talk when silence can communicate your words. What one learns by listening in a concentrated manner, he can never gather from talking endlessly.

Silence is the key to all success. It can lead you to places you have never been to. We have often heard the saying, ‘Work hard in silence’.

This saying is a major reflection of a successful man’s personality. Over time, he learns that silence is more useful than anything else.

You never know what to expect from a silent man. A silent person can be fun, intimidating, daring, dark, and dangerous but you never know what strikes you.

A person who works in silence strikes hard at his mission without anybody’s involvement or even suspicion.

He keeps plans to himself and this is what leads him to success. A blabbering mouth is always made fun of and never liked by other people.

Silence has two phases. It followed correctly; it can certainly change your lives. At times, when things are running smooth and you do not want any change to happen; or sometimes when you are not knowledgeable enough to talk about the topic; you should keep silent.

But when things go overhead and your decisions are a matter of end-to-end; it is better to break off that silence and question the things and happenings around us.

We should first learn to analyze the situation in silence and then form conclusions. Silence is the key to all understanding. Silence engulfs the eyes when the emotions weigh too heavy to drown into them.

Ever experienced the bond of a mother and her children? Even before the child is born, a mother learns to give into the demands of her babies.

When newborn baby takes birth, he /she is not able to communicate through voice. The mother communicates with her child through silence.

Paulo Coelho, in his renowned novel ‘Alchemist’, states the power of silence. He says that silence is a powerful language to surpass any other language in the world.

It is the first language in which humans communicated; even before the existence of any language and literature in the history of man kinds.

Paulo determines that the language of silence is a language of love and affection. When one learns to enjoy silence, he experiences bliss beyond the happiness that the material world can provide him.

In silence, we can experience the most beautiful bounties provided to us by Mother Nature.

The trickling of waterfall, the rustling of leaves, the gushing of waves, the rains straight from the crown of Ishtar the birds chirping, the carefree laughing; all of this can be redeeming to your soul.

In silence, you can feel your breath, your heartbeat, sometimes your bodily noises etc. They are all a proof that you are alive somewhere inside.

In dead silence, you see how alive your soul is at its core. It is bliss to experience things in silence which cannot be heard in noises and the fast life of the city.

Have you ever set on a quaint rooftop watching the stars? A coffee in your hands, a mug of chocolate and a powerful novel; they work like magic, especially when coupled with a tinge of silence.

Meditation is a very famous practice of controlling our brain, heart and soul. It is an exercise that establishes connection in one’s own mind and helps him to stay focused on his goals.

But the first step to meditation is silence. Silence not only in words but also in mind.

Mind should be made silent of all the thoughts running in a spiral, distracting it from its ultimate goal. Meditation can only be done in utter silence of heart, brain and mind.

That is where the brain trains itself to accomplish all tasks with focus and concentration.

People who master meditation become sages and hermits. But not every person in life is cutout for an imbecile life. When a task is accomplished with focus and concentration, the output is way better in quality.

Silence also helps us to introspect our decision, situations and actions in a better way. A step taken in haste and hurry will always ditch you in troublesome situations.

But a step taken after pondering over it deeply will help you to make better decisions. It helps you to look inward into your soul. It is the gateway between the mind and the soul because the two of them can connect to each other only in complete silence.

As I have elaborated about the significance of silence in our lives, I would like to ask everyone reading this article to take a deep breath and count 10 in utter silence. This for once, will end all activity when all of us will be plunged into the mellows of silence.

No bad things will exist then. Only brotherhood will follow through. The men doing menacing activities will stop for once and realize their wrongdoings.

That moment when the machines and vehicles halt, all activities suspended; that is the moment the reality will dawn upon us.

We will then realize our mistakes and may be the guilt keeps us from committing them again. Till then you take a deep breath and count up to 10 in deep silence.
