Types of Scholarships for Ph.D. students in India
Focusing on the need for financial assistance, the scholarships are offered to the below-mentioned four sections of our society-

Eligibility criteria

Google Ph. D. Fellowship, India
To be eligible for this fellowship, the person who is currently enrolled for a Ph.D. from an Indian university should be an undergraduate or master’s degree holder from an Indian University. He/She can also be a working professional from any registered organization.

SAARC Agricultural Ph.D. Scholarships
The individual should hold an interest in doing a Ph.D. in Agricultural Biotechnology and must be below the age of 40 years. He/She must have a Master’s degree in agricultural science or plant breeding or agricultural biotechnology or cytogenetics from a recognized university with an excellent academic record and good command on spoken & written English. He/She can also be an employee of National Agricultural Research, Education and Extension System from SAARC Member Countries (except Afghanistan and Bangladesh)
Note: Candidates having work experience and research paper publications on Agricultural Biotechnology and related fields are given preference.

ESSO-NCESS Junior Research Fellowship
The individual should have 1st class M.Sc./M.Tech. Degree in Earth System Sciences or related field with valid CSIR-UGC NET qualification for JRF. He/She should not be more than 28 years of age as on 30th September 2015.

Burning Questions Fellowship Awards
It is for an individual who is either a Ph.D. degree holder or enrolled for it from a recognized institute. He/She can also be independent scholars and researchers from a big research organization or can be a group of 2 or 4 researchers where a minimum of 1 person is a Ph.D. and willing to conduct progressive research are eligible for availing this scholarship.

Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund Scholarships
He/She should be a Ph.D. Scholar up to the age of 35 years. Also should have scored at least 60% in their Post-graduation and graduation as well. He/She should have been admitted to a recognized institute in India because failing in it will make them ineligible for the scholarship.

Google Ph. D. Fellowship, India
In this scholarship USD 50,000 for a maximum of 4 years to be given to the scholars and stipend for the fellowship to be given every month. Research-related expenses, air travel, will also be covered under this fellowship.

SAARC Agricultural Ph.D. Scholarships
The eligible candidates will be provided with tuition fees, air travels in economy class. Another grant for books, study material, will be provided once in the scholarship for USD 1000, also a grant of USD 1000 to cover the research cost every year. USD 600 per month will be given for a period of a maximum of 3 years as the scholar’s living expenses.

ESSO-NCESS Junior Research Fellowship
For the initial 2 years, INR 25,000 per month will be given for HRA, leave, and other benefits, and for the next subsequent years, it will be INR 28,000 per month based on the performance of the scholars.

Burning Questions Fellowship Awards
For the 3 categories mentioned above, it offers grants as USD 15,000, USD 20,000 & USD 25,000, respectively, when the scholars are eligible for the same.

Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund Scholarships
INR 18,000 per month as maintenance allowance, including tuition fees, is provided to the eligible scholars. Another INR 15,000 per annum is given as grants to them for in-country travel, books, stationery stuff, etc. as contingent expenses.
How to apply for a phd scholarship?
To apply for the scholarships, there are a few basic requirements that the aspirants need to take care of. Some scholarship programs require application in soft copies, and others may require it in hard copies to be mailed to their registered addresses.
The procedure generally follow these steps-

- Fill the required details, including your basic details, employment experiences, educational background.
- Attach all the related documents in PDF format for online application &/or self-attest the documents that you’re sending via post.
