Introduction:

The world is evolving every day, and we need to keep up with times. The world is a prominent place, and every living being is unique in its own way. Everyone has different choices, but they have equal rights. We should respect them and must make way for every human being irrespective of their gender.

The time when people had to be ashamed of their sexuality have gone. We should realize that it takes two people to get married, and for marriage, it doesn’t matter if they are of the same or different sex.

However, same-sex marriage neither gets accepted in society nor by their own family.

History Of Same-Sex Marriage

The idea of same-sex marriage has been nipped in the bud because of the clashes between supporters and opponents.

During mid 20th century, the two historians, Johann Jacob Bachofen & Lewis Henry Morgan, analyzed marriage and noted that most cultures are in support of the heteronormative form of marriage that revolves around union between opposite-sex partners.

In 2018, the Supreme Court of India made a change and passed a statement that went down the archives of the country’s history. The court out-dated section 377 of IPC (Indian panel code), which belittled homosexuality and criminalized intercourse calling it against the law of nature. The orders of the court brought many homophiles justice by abolishing such a rule and legalizing same-sex marriage.

The journey of this fight was not very easy. Many homosexual couples had to lay their lives and struggle for years to obtain their status in society. The pedestrian march and candle agitation throughout the world brought awareness amongst the community and in the people. The motive is not to overshadow the opposite sex marriage but to obtain the same equality and respect in society as the heterogeneous couples get.

Benefits Of Same-Sex Marriage

Same-sex marriage has many benefits and has scope in the future. A significant part of the world has matched their steps with advancing society, yet there is a section that is not ready to accept it.

Same-Sex Marriage As Economy Booster

The people in the wedding business will get benefits from same-sex marriage as it will increase their customer base, and the profit will also increase. And it will encourage people to talk freely about it and will also play an important role in changing the attitudes and views of people.

Same-Sex Marriage As A Check On Crime

Same-sex marriage also helps in reducing the rate of crime in society. Many research papers published recently clearly indicate that the community which allowed the people for same-sex marriage have observed less crime rate as compared to those who refuse it.

The cases of divorce are typical these days. The couple who married under the pressure of society may not be able to accept themselves. A marriage done in parental and societal pressure can never fulfill, especially when the two people have different needs and expectations from their partners.

Importance Of Same-Sex Marriage

In this progressing world, same-sex marriage has become essential. Everyone has the right to love anyone he or she wants. It does not make them wrong if they don’t like a person from the opposite sex.

As it is evident that people will be happy with their loved ones rather than being forced to marry the guy or the girl to whom they even don’t know. It gives hope to the people that they can also have a future.  The LGBTQ community has suffered a lot of discrimination, so they deserve to marry whomever they wish, irrespective of the gender.

The importance of same-sex marriage also lies in the fact that it gives them the confidence to accept themselves in public without feeling ashamed of themselves. The couple can also feel confident and take care of the family, and after marital affairs can also end if the couple marries the partner of their choice. After all, it is the couple who is going to live their lives together and not the entire society.

The Debate On Same-Sex Marriage

Same-sex marriage has been a part of the debate. Neither the laws nor the people accept it as they think that it is against their religion. They don’t give any chance to the LGBTQ community to prove themselves. A big reason for this is that Indian society is not as adaptable to changes as western countries.

Many other countries have the same opinions as India about same-sex marriage. They think that it is not allowed in their religion and culture.

When section 377 was lifted, the court allowed homosexuals to prove and speak for themselves. Still, Indian society feels ashamed of talking about homosexuality in public.  So, we still have to go a long way from the perspective of the LGBTQ community. Everyone should have the right to show their love and live without feeling ashamed of themselves.

Equality In Same-Sex Marriage

It is an idea which states that all marriages (whether it is homogeneous marriage or heterogeneous marriage) are equal and should enjoy a similar yet respectful status in society.

Growing up with the idea that only men and women can be bound in matrimony, but it’s time we need to realize that it is possible to fall in love with the person of same-sex.

Marriage is a sacred affair, and no one has the right to treat it like crime just because the people involved belong to same-sex.

The law of human rights states that no human should live under discrimination, fear, and oppression.

Conclusion

As it is clear from the above points that same-sex marriage is beneficial in many ways. I am not forcing anyone to accept it; all I am saying is that the LGBTQ community also has its rights. Not many people are in favor of them. So they are discriminated against by people. But now the attitude of modern society is changing.

The nation is accepting the LGBTQ community, but they still have to be more concerned. It will make the world a happier place when everyone feels they are received and appreciated for who they are and not forced to behave in another way. I hope everyone will realize it and make an effort to create a place for the LGBTQ community in their society.
