Foreign Media in India | Short Essay

December 3, 2017 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Human beings, as per science, are one of the most complex creatures on earth in terms of brain function and societal interactions. And it is extremely difficult to understand how and why the humans react in the way they do.

We tend to get more attached to negativity and ill-talks about others. Criticism of others endears to us. As a result, all kinds of negative news are of extreme interest to most of the people.

With the privatization and liberalization of media it has now become a new business. The work of the media was to represent fax and reality to the people with unbiased perspective devoid of preconceived notions. Their goal should be to represent everything at face value without any sort of meretricious ornamentation or adulteration. However just like any other business, to grow, the customers have to be satisfied.

For news channels the viewers are their customers and in order to satisfy them, news that India’s to them has to be aired. This customer satisfaction goes a long way in the revenue generation has high viewership and ratings leads to higher advertisement money. Being human beings there more attracted to negativity and such kind of news interests them.

The foreign media is no different and their functioning is quite as discussed above. They were allowed into India by the Indian Government during the 1990s with hopes to represent India in the foreign community, however, that move seems to have backfired on us.

Most of them paint a quite different picture of India then it is in reality. They mostly publish negative facts and aspects of India in order to get more views and ratings from the public. They mostly paint and negative and obscured picture of India far from what it is in real life in order to sell the news.

This moulds the perspective of the people about India and leads to a very poisonous stereotyping about Indians which later leads to racial discrimination and subsequently paves the way for violent ethnic fragmentation.

Most of the English-speaking population from the accident are not even aware of the real India that they claim to know about. These people are unaware of the language and culture of India and as a result in India in their own whimsical way. Even when they visit India they are not able to capture its true life and soul because of the absence of proper interpretation and knowledge of our culture history and language.

Even the tourist guides they are not of much help as they themselves are a professional people from the lowest rate of the society who want to make a living by hook or by crook. These tourist guides mislead them and result in less representation of facts. Most of the foreign nationals who visit India are made to see the most conventional and stereotypical India.

Usually the Taj Mahal is all that they can utter about India. The foreign media has always painted India in a darker picture as a nation who is struggling to make its mark in the International sphere. They still believe India is a land of snake charmers and superstitions. All kinds of negative news about India is vehemently propagated in the foreign media. Rapes, sexual assaults, cruelty on women, child marriage etc at the principal subjects of their headlines.

Shiv American media houses have also accused India of being a major culprit of air pollution in the world. However, facts reveal that the United States with its tremendous industrialization and specialization of Technology and Science has created many factories that liberate harmful toxic gases in astronomical quantities far more severe in quantity as well as toxicity than India. I like what the media should be they hide their facts.

It is normal human nature to be jealous. Whenever there is a threat to our own Throne we tend to get panicky. Whenever your powers are challenged we feel insecure. Today India being a developing nation is doing exactly that to the United States. The United States has been for long a major power in the military field as well as in the field of science technology and economy.

However, Indians have today developed science and technological advancements much higher in quality and much for lower in cost then the Occident. Even our military acumen is commendable. India successfully launched nuclear weapons and various other military defense techniques airplanes fighter jets which can prove to be quite a tough competition for our American counterparts.

The foreign media least interested to depict facts about India which are true. Usually the most obscure and rare instances of news are published in the foreign about India.

Many countries also have ulterior policies of downgrading the other nations to the general population in order to glorify their own country. Search narcissistic model of public media is extremely dangerous and is nothing but an instrument of vague self-satisfaction. For example, the North Korean media is highly biased towards their own country and depict all other countries in the world as lower than them.

Freedom of press is an extremely important prerequisite for the development of a nation and for the higher growth of the mental faculties of its citizens. However, some rest houses misuse this freedom and mold news to their own interests and advantages and it is the people who are the sufferers in the end.

India is one of the greatest nations in the world today and is giving its way to become greater than everyone else in all fields imaginable my men. However, it is our unfortunate light that most of the foreign media paints a completely different picture of what we are.

Even with all these, there are still some good done by the foreign media. They have offices and reporters at various locations throughout the world with proper machinery and equipment that provides us with live streaming of any incident from anywhere in the world.

This is a completely impossible task for the Indian media to carry out. One more advantage of having the foreign media in India is that they are not as influenced by the political class as is the Indian media. The ‘Doordarshan’ in India has often been accused of being an agent of the Government, presenting only the good facts about the Government. This is quite difficult with foreign media houses who have their supervisors in foreign nations.
