Essay on Fools Rush in where Angels Fear to Tread

February 18, 2018 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

‘Fools rush in where angels fear to tread’ was essentially used as one of the lines in the poem by Alexander Pope. It was a part of the poem ‘An essay of criticism’.

This proverb is used to show the dumb minds of people who venture in dangerous and unsafe situations.

They do not give a single thought to their decisions but the wise always remain on the safer side. It is a descriptive of the recklessness of a fickle minded person who does not analyze a situation before stepping into it.

Some kind of situations is even avoided by professionals. But amateurs venture into them.

This is because amateurs do not give a hoot about the experience of professionals. But they just want to show their superiority and boldness when they don’t have any of these qualities.

‘Angels’ in this proverb has been attributed to wise, mature and experienced individuals. These individuals are generally diplomats and they are focused towards their goals.

They generally know all tactics of their profession and are experts at it. They take all their decisions by scrutinizing them very closely. They figure out all the pros and cons of their decisions. They also analyze the impact of their decisions on the interest concerned.

They do not want to land themselves in a situation which is all risky but no profit. So they always keep all their steps in a controlled manner.

Whereas ‘fools’ are actually opposite to the concept of ‘angels’. Fools do not think twice before taking the giant step and their decisions are reckless and risky. They do not analyze the return on risk associated but only take the risk for the sake of taking it.

It is not necessary that every amateur is a fool in his business. But amateurs these days are generally cocky and arrogant.

They feel that they know it all, even without any skill in their hands. They are devoid of common sense. They do not have the power to play how the events will turn out in their heads due to their rash decisions.

They do not have the ability of judgment to decide what is right and what is wrong. They do not know how and when to apply their mind in the right direction when needs.

But as we say it, karma is a bitch; payback bites you when you best expect it. Life is like an echo. What you give to reflected back. So it becomes very evident that the consequences of your irrational behavior would have to borne by you only.

One should always remain on his toes for any lurking danger around. Alertness and quite decision making is the key to success. Adjusting yourself according to the changes happening around you is important else your reluctance to change will lead you to failure.

But fools fail to incorporate the brunt of it at the end. Tasks should also try to inculcate some values from the wise so that they can also benefit from the situations.

An illiterate might not always be a fool but an educated person might not be always wise. Education and literacy only gives the bookish knowledge to the students. Education can teach you how to take right decisions but it cannot make those decisions for you.

Education is not a guarantee that you will end up as a strong and an opinioned individual. It does help to build your knowledge and character but at the end it is you who has to make the decisions.

At times, and illiterate person might be able to make better decisions than you rationally and take decisions by analyzing the situation closely.

He might be illiterate but his power to think rationally can surpass the wit or intelligence of any educated person.

So, in reality the education of a person matters in decision making to some extent but not wholly as the ability to think rationally and logically can be developed with or without the dawn of education.

The foolish people is bound to be indifferent to the magnitude of a situation. All he thinks about is his own selfish interests. They do not know the danger of playing with wild fire but what they do is smirk and play with it as if it were ice bulbs.

But they do not realize the consequences of their actions on the future and their well beings. As opposed to foolish people, the sensible ones who have some sense knocked into their minds will always be calculating and diplomatic enough to know that they have to take the right decision by taking that particular step or decision.

So I prefer to advice the fools or the insane minded people to keep away from the dangers uncalled for and try it like a safe and a sound life. Wise men are called wise for a reason.

They are remembered by one and all for their intelligence and skills. But the foolish people tend to irritate and annoy those around them with their actions.

This leaves the others fuming with rage due to that person’s decisions. One should always think for his loved ones and how his decisions affect them.

In the end, I would like to conclude with the fact that no person is born wise or foolish. But his decisions, his actions, his steps tag him so.

A fool is always looked down upon in the society but a wise man is respected for this brains. I know that nobody can master all the tricks of the trade.

But he sure as hell can learn from his mistakes and not repeat them in the future again. But if a person repeats his mistake that he once committed once again, then he is certainly foolish for not thinking about clearly before taking the correct decision.

A foolish will go on repeating his mistake because he has not learned his lesson yet but a wise man will never repeat his mistake again because he has already learned his lessons from his past follies.
