India is a diverse country. It has a wealth of cultural diversity and known for hosting a large number of cultural values in the world. This great heritage in the form of different cultures gave born to the most prevalent and undesirable issue of casteism in India. Casteism is differentiation based on the caste of the person. It is a social evil, India is dealing with it since pre-independence times and still suffers from it. Developing countries like India cannot flourish with Casteism inside its people. So it is the need of time to deal with Casteism and eradicate this problem for good.
Characteristics of Casteism
Casteism is a curse on any society. In India, this curse has been executed by everyone. Firstly, the British used this as a weapon and prolonged there kingdom through the divide and rule policy. Then comes our politicians. You can easily find the issue of casteism or reservation based on casteism as the main agenda point of the campaign during the elections. Most conventional in Bihar, people votes in the name of the caste of the candidates. It is a bitter truth; therefore, the caste-based reservation is one of the critical manifestos during the elections. Casteism has never helped the people under any caste system, but it only helped the Politian to brighten their politics and never the condition of the poor they took the votes from.
Casteism overlooks the human values and moralities and welfare of society. It is a hindrance in the path of growth of the country and virtue of the basic idea behind democracy. It only pre-election plans and all parties use it during the elections. The concept of casteism is anti-constitutional and against the glory and fame of India.
Impact of Casteism on Life
Casteism has a deep impact on the lives of the people throughout India. There are several places where the evil of casteism still prevails. It is not modern but an ancient problem which is prevailing in India for centuries ago.
There was a time in India when there were four principal castes. These castes were based on the duty they perform and not on the birth of the people. These were The Brahmans, The Kshatriyas, The Vaishyas, and The Shudras. The brahmans were supposed to be the most knowledgeable, and they gained the highest pedestrian in the system. While the Kshatriyas were one who can have arms and were supposed to fight for the nation and expand the boundaries of the kingdoms. The Vaishya were the businessman while the Shudras were supposed to be the laborer class, and they served others. The Shudras were at the lowest pedestrian of the ancient caste system.
While the Brahmans were at the peak, they proclaimed themselves as the messenger of God. They started treating other caste people as their disciples, and especially the shudra were treated as untouchables. It became the main reason for hatred, and a never-ending evil of Casteism took birth in India due to misconduct in the past.
The time changes at the coastal roller speed, and India reaches the Moon. But the evil of Casteism seems to be a never decline phenomenon. Inter-caste marriage is still considered to be evil in society. We hear the news of honor killing from many parts of countries, especially Haryana, for the inter-caste couple marry each other. It is the bitter truth of society, both the rural and the urban areas of India.
Today we have different reservation systems in the name of caste and religions. The people who were treated inferior to the others are now playing a vital role in every department of society. Due to the reservation system, even undeserving gets selected to the top post, and the deserving fellow has to sit aside. Therefore, it is the high time to eradicate the social evil of Casteism and let India be a Casteism free nation.
Casteism is a Social Evil
The impact of casteism in society cannot be underestimated. Casteism plays a vital role in the destruction of society and the birth of anti-social elements. We can’t just understand how the birth of a person determines his future. A person born in a family of lower caste is deprived of all the benefits of society and treated as slaves since the child was born. To balance this situation, our government announced several reservation schemes for lower caste people, so that they may get equal opportunities and can establish themselves in society. But this too has its negative impact on society. Many times deserving candidates have to lose their job or a sit-in university due to the person in the reserved category has their first right over it. Many talents being murdered, and these hurdled in the progress path of our country, India.
Conclusion
Casteism is a social evil, and it is a hindrance to the growth of our country. This evil must be eradicated very sooner than later. The birth of the reservation system due to casteism must also be destroyed for good as it kills the talent and undeserving can beat the deserving ones in the race due to the caste-based reservation system. If at all reservations are being provided, it must be financially based, not on the caste-based.
Another suggestion maybe there should not be reservation in jobs, but there should be reservation in education. The students of the lower caste can be given free education, but they must have to compete at the same level throughout. It is a common phenomenon that some people took advantage of the reservation system, the son/daughter of former IAS is also treated as reserved categories due to reservation based on casteism, even if they are financially in better condition than the student of general class.
So, we suggest and actively support the reservation based on financial condition rather than reservation based on Casteism. Once this benefit from the politician is snatched, they will look through and amend the constitution so that the caste system may get eradicated. Always remember, this is the India of 2020 and not of 1947, where lower caste people were under the burden and exploited and the caste-based reservation was essential for their uplift in the society. Today is 2020, and every one posses equal position in society.
